Wicked Auto Films Arkansas tint law
How Dark You Can Legally Go in Arkansas
The limit is not one number. It changes with what you drive, and the rear of a truck is allowed to go a lot darker than the rear of a sedan.
| Glass | Sedan | Truck, SUV, van | What we usually fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windshield strip | 5 in from the top | 5 in from the top | Non-reflective, cut to the AS-1 line |
| Front side windows | 25% | 25% | 35% if you drive at night, 25% if you want it dark |
| Rear side windows | 25% | 10% | Matched to the fronts, or dropped to 20% on a truck |
| Rear glass | 10% | 10% | 20% keeps a truck legal at the back and still reads dark |
Going darker than this is a Class B misdemeanour. It is a fine and an order to strip the film, which you pay for twice. Film darker than the table above is sold in Arkansas and fitted every day — but it is your licence plate on the car, so ask for the number before you agree to it, and know what you are choosing.
The questions this table does not answer
- VLT is measured on the glass and the film together, not on the film alone. Factory glass already blocks some light, so a 35% film on a car that is already 80% does not come out at 35%. Every figure in the table above is that combined number.
- Medical exemptions. Arkansas allows one on a doctor's certification. Nobody has asked us for one yet — bring the certification and we will work to it.
- Buying a car that is already tinted too dark. The ticket follows the vehicle, not whoever fitted it. If you have just bought something suspicious, get it measured before you get pulled over.
General information, not legal advice. We fit film; we do not advise on vehicle codes. The figures above state the law as we understand it at the time of writing, with its source named in the table caption. Check the current code, or ask us and we will measure your glass.
